The Pančevo Oil Refinery began suspending production facilities today due to a lack of crude oil for processing, which occurred as a result of US sanctions on the Oil Industry of Serbia (NIS), due to its majority Russian ownership.

The NIS statement states that the refinery facilities will be ready to start once information is received about the availability of crude oil.

During the shutdown, employees at the Refinery will be engaged in the tasks they perform during planned plant shutdowns.

"At the same time, NIS continues to supply the domestic market with petroleum products without interruption, thanks to previously secured supplies," the statement reads.

The company hopes that regular operations of the Pančevo Oil Refinery will be restored as soon as possible.

Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić stated earlier today that the US decision to extend NIS's operating license has not arrived, and that he is disappointed and surprised by the US's stance, as he does not see what they have gained from it.

The Russians, according to him, do not want to sell their stake in NIS.

"It's not about money at all, it's about politics. And that's their logical right. They are the owners. The other thing is that we have a lot of trouble with it. Just as the Americans aren't interested in much else, except for their geopolitical interests. Again, it's not a lot of money. For now, only Serbia is suffering. We'll see if and how it will continue," Vučić said.
