The Bahamas has become the 121st country to recognize Kosovo as an independent and sovereign state, President Vjosa Osmani announced today.
She stated that she had signed a bilateral agreement in the capital of the Bahamas on the recognition and establishment of diplomatic relations with this Caribbean island nation.
It also issued a joint declaration stating that "both states announce the establishment of diplomatic relations between the Commonwealth of the Bahamas and the Republic of Kosovo."
This is valid "from the date of signing the Joint Agreement on the Establishment of Diplomatic Relations, in accordance with international law and the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations of 1961," the declaration states.
It emphasizes that "both states reaffirm respect for sovereignty, equality of states and the peaceful resolution of disputes."
This is Kosovo's fourth recognition this year, and the Bahamas was preceded by Syria, Sudan and Kenya.
