The Kosovo Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) published today information for foreign citizens on legal obligations during entry, residence and work within Kosovo, and the implementation of the provisions of the Law on Foreigners and the Law on Vehicles begins on March 15.
The information states that, when entering the territory of Kosovo, a foreign citizen is required to possess and show a valid travel document, possess a visa or residence permit, when necessary, and respect the purpose and duration of stay.
He is obliged to register his residence address within three days of entry at the border or at a police station, has sufficient means of subsistence, respects the laws of Kosovo, is not banned from entering and staying in Kosovo, and does not pose a threat to state security, public order, or public health.
When it comes to short-term stays in Kosovo, the law stipulates that a foreign citizen may stay for up to ninety days within a period of one hundred and eighty days, with or without a visa, depending on whether one is required, during that period work is not allowed without a work permit, and any stay longer than 90 days requires the submission of an application for a residence permit.
If you enter Kosovo for employment or work, you need a work permit, and for professions that require it, you also need to submit a license to work on the territory of Kosovo.
Working without a permit is prohibited. An application for a work permit must be submitted to the Employment Agency.
A temporary residence permit is also required for those studying or residing in Kosovo for humanitarian reasons, scientific research, and other circumstances provided for by law.
The request can be submitted to diplomatic and consular missions or to the Department of Citizenship, Asylum and Migration of the Ministry of Internal Affairs.
In cases of violation of the prescribed conditions, the competent authorities may impose a measure such as the cancellation of the residence permit, a fine, expulsion or a ban on entry into the territory of Kosovo.
Any entry after March 15th that does not comply with the provisions of the law may result in a ban on entry.
