Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said today that the agreement on the sale of a package of shares in the Serbian company NIS to the Hungarian company MOL would not have been reached if it were not in Russia's interests.
"Regarding Serbia's oil industry, this agreement, which was announced yesterday, if it had not been favorable for the Russian side, including Gazprom, would not have happened," Lavrov said at a press conference on the results of Russian diplomacy in 2025, TASS reported.
Hungarian company MOL Group confirmed yesterday that it has signed the main provisions of a binding framework agreement with Russian company Gazprom Neft on the purchase of a 56,15 percent stake in Serbian company NIS.
MOL also announced that it is negotiating with the United Arab Emirates National Oil Company (ADNOC) about its entry into the ownership structure of NIS as a minority shareholder, while retaining MOL's majority ownership and management rights.
