Sarajevo marked the 32nd anniversary of the Markale market massacre today, when a grenade fired from a Republika Srpska Army (VRS) position killed 68 civilians and wounded 142 people.

Among the victims were men, women, the elderly, but also young people who were trying to buy food and basic necessities.

According to Sarajevo media, numerous citizens and delegations paid tribute to the murdered citizens at the Markale market today.

Among those present were the High Representative in Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) Kristijan Šmit, a delegation from the Sarajevo Canton Government, as well as the Vice Presidents of the Federation of BiH Igor Stojanović and Refik Lendo.

The president of the Union of Civilian Victims of War of the Sarajevo Canton, Senida Karović, stated that 32 years after the Markale massacre, there is nothing but the verdicts of the Hague Tribunal on command responsibility.

Karović emphasized that she was not satisfied, because, as she said, even today there are not a single indictment filed for the siege of Sarajevo and the murder of civilians and children.

The Hague Tribunal convicted Stanislav Galić, commander of the Sarajevo-Romanija Corps of the RS Army, for the shelling of Markale.

The shelling of Markal is also mentioned in the Hague Tribunal's verdicts against the wartime President of the RS, Radovan Karadžić, and the Commander of the RS Army, General Ratko Mladić.
