Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama called Hague Tribunal Special Prosecutor Matthew Holling an "international idiot".
Rama shared a video clip from the prosecutor's presentation in the Hague trial of former KLA leader Hashim Thaci and three co-defendants for war crimes in Kosovo and Albania (1998-99), in which he alleged that Thaci had also tried to deceive the international community.
"Thaci was able to cover up what was really happening, especially (former US official James) Rubin and (General Wesley) Clark showed that they had no interest in understanding what was really happening," Howling said yesterday.
Under the video, Rama wrote "what an international idiot."
In Holling's words, Rubin and Clark wanted to "be on the right side of history," ignoring Thaci's ability to deceive them.
The prosecutor suggested that the impressions of these witnesses - who claimed that Thaci was not a military commander of the KLA and that he was not involved in crimes - were superficial, since they were not based on deeper knowledge of the organization and activities of the KLA, but rather on personal meetings and conversations.
"These statements should not be given any weight," Prosecutor Howling told the judges about the almost identical testimonies of Rubin, Clark and other witnesses for Thaci's defense.
