New protests by transporters are possible, announced the Minister of Communications and Transport of Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH), Edin Forto, after a meeting with representatives of the Logistics BiH consortium.

He spoke with them about the increasingly frequent problems that professional drivers from Bosnia and Herzegovina face when entering the Schengen area, especially regarding the application of the 90/180 rule and the denial of entry by Croatian control authorities, Nezavisne novine reports.

"Transporter representatives pointed out that the problem of drivers being turned back from the border has intensified in the recent period, which seriously threatens the operations of transport companies and the stability of international freight transport. They warned that, if the situation is not urgently resolved, there is a real possibility of new regional protests at border crossings," said Forto.

He stated that their drivers keep the economy moving and if their right to work is denied, protests are a completely justified reaction.

Forto reiterated that carriers and drivers in the Ministry of Communications and Transport of BiH have an interlocutor, a partner, and full support in solving this problem.

The Ministry's statement states that Forto informed the carriers about recent meetings with representatives of European institutions in Brussels, where he insisted on resolving this issue at the European Union level.

"He expressed concern about the lack of concrete measures and the European Commission's insufficient interest in finding a sustainable solution for drivers in international transport. On Monday, the Ministry of Communications and Transport of Bosnia and Herzegovina sent a proposal to the Chairperson of the Council of Ministers of BiH, Borjana Krišto, for an urgent joint session with the Government of Croatia on this topic," the Ministry said in a statement.

It is added that Forto will hold meetings with international representatives in the coming days, and insist on achieving a permanent solution that will protect the interests of transporters from Bosnia and Herzegovina.
