Outgoing President of Kosovo Vjosa Osmani handed over her position today to Parliament Speaker Aljbuljeni Haxhi.
Osmani said at a ceremony at the Kosovo Presidency that she is leaving behind "an extraordinary body of work" and that she is happy that a woman will take over the position until the election of a new president.
"It has always been one of my great wishes that, whenever I leave this position, I would leave a woman behind. This wish is being fulfilled today and I sincerely hope that, as the people say, you will also step forward and leave a woman in this position behind you. With full confidence that women always show special care towards the institutions and towards every citizen of the Republic," said Osmani.
She wished Albuljeni Haxhi success during his period as acting President of Kosovo.
Osmani expressed her wish for the Assembly to elect a new president as soon as possible.
Haxhiu said that while performing her duties as president, she will act in accordance with the Constitution and applicable laws, emphasizing that she understands the responsibility and constitutional obligations she has assumed.
She thanked outgoing President Vjosa Osmani for her dedication to serving Kosovo.
Haxhiu emphasized that the Constitution does not allow her to remain in the position of acting president for longer than six months and expressed hope that the Parliament will elect a new president as soon as possible, emphasizing that new elections are not good for either the citizens or the state.
She called on MPs to find a solution to the president's issue as soon as possible, leaving aside political differences and disagreements.
Osmani was the sixth president of Kosovo after 1999, and she assumed office on April 4, 2021.
