Serbian Prime Minister Đuro Macut spoke today with European Commissioner for Home Affairs and Migration Magnus Bruner about European integration, improving democratic standards, strengthening institutions, the rule of law and the protection of human rights, the Prime Minister's office announced.
Macut said that Serbia supports the model of gradual institutional inclusion of candidate countries, including the possibility of temporary participation in certain institutional and political formats, with certain limitations such as the absence of veto rights and a clear principle of reversibility.
Belgrade believes it is necessary to shorten waiting times at the Schengen zone border, he added.
Speaking about migration, Macut stated that Serbia has proven that it shares European values, as well as its willingness to assume its share of obligations, with full respect for the norms and standards of international law.
He added that cooperation with European institutions in this area has been agreed, and that Serbia has contributed to it.
Macut reiterated that membership in the European Union (EU) is a strategic commitment and priority of Serbia's foreign policy and that he believes that Europe looks at Serbia, just as Serbia looks at it, without conditionality, the statement said.
