Karlovac police found four dead men, two men in poor health, who were immediately transported to a health facility, as well as one male person who was helping the injured.
As reported by N1, on Sunday evening, shortly after 10:30 PM, the police received a report about a large group of migrants in the area of the Netretić municipality, in the settlement of Donje Prilišće.
Upon arrival at the scene, police officers found a shocking scene - the bodies of four men were found, while two people in serious condition were urgently transported to a medical facility. A male person was also found at the scene providing assistance to the injured.
Through further investigation, in the immediate vicinity of the location of the discovery, as well as at the nearby former border crossing with the Republic of Slovenia, the police found 12 more foreign citizens.
A total of 13 people were then transported to the Registration Center for International Protection Seekers in Dugi Do. According to information currently available, the group of migrants was brought to the scene by an unknown driver in a cargo vehicle.
After disembarking, the driver left the location, and the foreign nationals stated that they were exposed to inhumane conditions during the transport. An investigation was conducted at the scene under the leadership of the county state prosecutor, N1 reports.
The police have launched an investigation on suspicion that criminal acts of illegal entry, movement and residence in the Republic of Croatia, another member state of the European Union or a signatory to the Schengen Agreement, as well as serious criminal acts against public security, have been committed.
The investigation also includes suspicion of endangering life and property by a generally dangerous act or means.
In order to determine all the circumstances of the tragedy, an autopsy will be conducted to determine the exact cause of death, as well as the identity of the deceased.
