The Chairman of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH), Denis Bećirović, stated today at a meeting with NATO Deputy Secretary General Radmila Šekerinska that Bosnia and Herzegovina is making continuous progress on the NATO path, emphasizing that the formal and substantive conditions for issuing an invitation for membership in this military alliance have been met.
Bećirović emphasized that there is institutional commitment, that is, full institutional consensus for this strategic goal, as well as significant support from the citizens of BiH for the country's membership in NATO, as stated in a statement from his cabinet published on the official website of the Presidency of BiH.
The Chairman of the Presidency of BiH, it is added, has therefore proposed that BiH be invited to join as soon as possible.
The statement states that at the meeting with the Deputy Secretary General of NATO, which was also attended by the Croatian member of the BiH Presidency, Željko Komšić, he discussed BiH's progress on its path towards full NATO membership, as well as current security and political challenges.
During the meeting, the results achieved by BiH in the Euro-Atlantic integration process were presented, including the adoption and implementation of the BiH Reform Program, the implementation of the Individually Tailored Partnership Program for the period 2025 to 2028, as well as continued investments in the modernization and strengthening of the operational capabilities of the Armed Forces of BiH.
The interlocutors noted that a high degree of interoperability with NATO forces has been achieved, the statement said.
Further steps in strengthening BiH's cooperation with NATO were also discussed, with specific proposals presented regarding the intensification of the integration process, including stronger political and technical support from NATO, acceleration of reform activities, and additional strengthening of joint capacities in the field of security and defense.
Members of the Presidency of BiH Denis Bećirović and Željko Komšić, at the invitation of NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte, are participating in a meeting of the North Atlantic Council (NAC) in Brussels today.
