Metropolitan Justin of Žička has been relieved of his episcopal throne, after a process lasting several months, Serbian portal Nova.rs has confirmed from multiple sources.
Justin was dismissed at the Holy Council of Bishops of the Serbian Orthodox Church.
27 bishops voted for the removal of Metropolitan Justin of Žica, while eight abstained.
Six bishops expressed their opinions: Joannikije, Theodosij, Ignatij, Grigorij, Maximije, and Demetrije.
As Nova.rs previously wrote, the bishops were expected to consider the possibility of his excommunication, or final removal from the episcopal throne, after a months-long process that caused deep divisions among the faithful and the clergy.
According to information obtained by the Nova.rs portal, Bishop Justin's defense was made extremely difficult, and so, on the eve of the Council, he received extensive documentation to which he had to respond within less than two weeks.
The documentation provided to Justin runs to several hundred pages, and he is prohibited from communicating or consulting with his lawyer or associates.
