The students in the blockade issued a statement late tonight indirectly accusing criminals and the police of the riots that broke out after a peaceful protest at Slavija, in the center of Belgrade, the capital of Serbia.
"After the end of tonight's magnificent parade, clashes and violence broke out on the streets of Belgrade in the immediate vicinity of the fenced area near Pioneer Park. Sympathizers of the ruling regime, as well as persons for whom we have reasonable suspicions that they belong to the criminal milieu, were guarded by large police forces in Pioneer Park throughout the day," reads a statement posted on social media.
"Several dozen people were beaten and arrested tonight. Some suffered serious injuries, broken teeth, and blows to the head. Our colleagues are currently in the Emergency Center and police stations," the students wrote.
"Tonight we made it clear, the choice is up to all of us. Either Serbia or the mafia!" the statement concludes.
