The Higher Court in Belgrade today extended the detention of former Belgrade Police Chief Veselin Milić, as well as six other suspects in the murder of Aleksandar Nešović in the "27" restaurant in Senjak, for another 30 days, reports N1.
The court announced that Milić's detention was extended due to the existence of special circumstances indicating that, if released, he could destroy, hide, alter or falsify evidence or traces of a criminal offense.
Milić is charged with the criminal offense of failure to report a criminal offense and perpetrator under Article 332, paragraph 2, in conjunction with paragraph 1 of the Criminal Code.

The custody of suspects SV, MS, DV, NL, DS and J.Ž. was also extended.
As announced, the detention of SV and MS was extended due to the risk of flight, the possibility of repeating the criminal offense in a short period of time, as well as the gravity of the offenses they are suspected of, which are punishable by imprisonment for more than ten years. The court also stated that the manner of commission and the consequences of the offense caused public unrest that could jeopardize the smooth and fair conduct of the proceedings.
DV's detention was extended due to reasonable suspicion that she committed a criminal offense punishable by more than ten years in prison, with the explanation that the manner of commission and the consequences caused public concern.
NL and DS remain in custody due to the risk of reoffending.
J.Ž.'s detention was extended due to suspicion that she might influence witnesses, as well as destroy, hide, alter or falsify evidence or traces of a criminal offense.
The suspects, including Saša Vuković, are charged with aggravated murder in complicity.
The Public Prosecutor's Office requested an extension of detention.
Yesterday, the Higher Public Prosecutor's Office (HPO) proposed to the preliminary proceedings judge to extend the detention of seven suspects, including Milić, for up to 30 days.
The VJP stated that the extension of Milić's detention was proposed so that he would not destroy, hide, alter or falsify evidence or traces of the criminal offense, which the Higher Court accepted.
For Saša Vuković, who is suspected of the murder of Aleksandar Nešović Baja, detention has been proposed due to the risk of flight, the possibility of repetition of the offense, as well as the gravity of the crime and public disturbance.
An extension of detention has also been proposed for Mario S., Danka V., Nenad L., Dejan S. and Jasna Ž.
Part of the complaint against Milić dismissed
On June 9, the Higher Public Prosecutor's Office dismissed the criminal charges against Milić in the part that related to the criminal offense of assisting the perpetrator after the crime was committed in the case of the murder at the "27" restaurant, stating that there were no grounds for suspicion that a criminal offense for which he is being prosecuted ex officio was committed.
The prosecution then issued a statement in which, based on data from base stations and the suspects' mobile phone listings, it reconstructed their movements from leaving the restaurant in Senjak to arriving home.
Why was Milić arrested?
Veselin Milić was arrested on May 15th along with ten other people on suspicion of being connected to the murder of Aleksandar Nešović Baja, which occurred on May 12th at the "27" restaurant in Senjak.
According to investigators' suspicions, Nešović was shot by Saša Vuković, known by the nickname Boske.
Initially, it was suspected that the crime was committed in Milić's presence and that he and three police officers from his security team participated in covering up the evidence. However, on June 3, the VJP announced that the charges against the three police officers had been dropped due to lack of evidence.
Milić was first questioned on the day of his arrest, after which he was remanded in custody for up to 30 days. He was questioned again on June 3 due to new evidence, the prosecution announced.
Previously, his apartment and office premises were searched on May 29, 14 days after his arrest.
After the second hearing, his defense attorney Nemanja Vasiljević provided the media with part of Milić's alleged statement, in which the former Belgrade police chief claims that his colleagues are "setting him up" and that they did not present evidence from the criminal complaint to the prosecutor.
The body of Aleksandar Nešović was found on May 21 in a barrel in the territory of the Inđija municipality, in the presence of prosecutors from the Higher Public Prosecutor's Office.
