Six people were seriously injured and 14 slightly injured in a collision between a passenger and freight train in Croatia this morning, Hina reports, citing information from the Ministry of Health.
Jutarnji list reports that all passengers from the train were pulled out and rescued, and that, according to currently available information, no lives were in danger. The trains collided between the Sveti Ivan Žabno and Gradec stations, near Križevci.
Križevci su a city in Koprivnica-Križevci County, in northwestern Croatia.
The prefect of Križevci-Koprivnica, Tomislav Golubić, said that there were 27 passengers on the train, 17 of whom were injured:
"We thank all the medical workers. No one is in danger of life, as far as I know. I commend the firefighters, more than 50 firefighters participated in the rescue. I would like to thank in particular a man who lives nearby, who brought all the passengers and the injured down with his forklift and made it easier for the emergency services to take care of them. Thanks to him, all the injured were treated in hospitals."
This morning at around 10:05 a.m., a freight train operated by HŽ Cargo and a passenger train operated by HŽ Passenger Transport collided.
"First of all, I would like to express my condolences for the injured passengers and railway workers. I wish all those injured a speedy recovery. It is too early to talk about the causes of the accident," said Damir Lončarić, president of the board of HŽ Infrastruktura.
