"When I was asked if I supported the "student protest against the dictatorship", I thought that it was almost incorrect to be asked such a question. The very active participation in the great student revolt in 1986 against Tito's dictatorship largely marked the further direction of my biography. All forms of repression of police-political autocracy and violations of human rights belong there. Of course, that was half a century ago, which is very much for a forgetful audience. Secondly, every generation has the right to its own expression and the right to its own rebellion, as I taught and wrote, says Dragoljub Mićunović, former president of the DS Political Council, about the protests for "Danas".
"Therefore, I follow with great sympathy the new awakening of civic consciousness, the resistance to the "rule of one man" and the suppression of all democratic institutions, from the parliament, the judiciary to the media and every independent organization...Students and other citizens who express their protests, dissatisfied with the political order, do the necessary step in the defense of their freedom and equality, they rebelled and defend their civil dignity against populist deception and intimidation," Mićunović explained.
He added that the rule of one man easily slips into an extreme form when it becomes a dictatorship, then resistance requires much greater sacrifices than peaceful protest marches.
"What is even more worrying is the rapid stratification of society that the government is accelerating with its economic policy. The worrying increase in poverty and the huge injustice that the government supports with its decrees are a serious threat to the progress of society," says Mićunović.
