Professor of the Faculty of Political Sciences Čedomir Čupić assessed that the candidate of the ruling coalition, Aleksandar Vučić, had an advantage in the presidential elections that the other candidates did not have, because he is in the position of prime minister, and this shows that the Constitution of Serbia, as well as the Law on the Government and the Law on the President of the Republic are not well done.
He said that Vučić convincingly won the presidential elections and that no one questions that, but that "it is not a great legitimacy because a large number of citizens did not go to the polls".
"The question is how they will position themselves now, whether they will have the so-called symbolic power through the government and the party as real power, i.e. have both executive and legislative power. It would be very dangerous if the accumulation of power creates supremacy and omnipotence, which will be absolute arbiter," said Čupić, the media reported.
He said that now we need to work on the fact that the prime minister and ministers, if they enter the presidential race, should submit their resignations and thus show that they are in an equal position with the other candidates.
"It is very dangerous to speak on the same day as a presidential candidate and as a prime minister who has operational tasks," said Čupić.
He said that the external factor did not show itself in a democratic way.
"It is very dangerous to receive a prime minister who is running for president, as German Chancellor Angela Merkel and Russian President Vladimir Putin did," said Čupić.
