The purge of thousands of teachers, police officers and civil servants that followed the coup attempt in Turkey in July is against international law and the Turkish constitution.
That claim was made today by the Venice Commission, a panel of experts of the Council of Europe, as reported by Reuters.
"The measures taken by the government went beyond what is allowed by the Turkish constitution and international laws," the Venice Commission said in a statement.
These experts stated that "the method of purging the state apparatus creates a strong impression of arbitrariness".
