Swedish prosecutors have rejected WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange's request to suspend a European warrant for his arrest to allow him to leave the Ecuadorian Embassy in London, where he is holed up, to attend a funeral.
The prosecution stated in a statement today that it rejected Assange's request due to the absence of provisions in Swedish law that could be applied to the issuance of an exit permit, or to make an exception in any other way for a court decision on detention or the issuance of a European arrest warrant. .
