The President of the European Council, Donald Tusk, appealed today to Great Britain to hurry up the procedure of "divorce" from the European Union.
The issue of Brexit will be on the agenda of today's meeting between Donald Tusk and British Prime Minister Theresa May in London.
Ahead of the meeting, Tusk told May that "the ball is in her court" and that the procedure should start as soon as possible.
European leaders have previously expressed their desire for London to start the procedure as soon as possible, but Theresa May said that she is in no hurry to start the two-year formal negotiations on the country's withdrawal from the Union.
In accordance with Article 50 of the Lisbon Treaty on withdrawal of a country from EU membership, Great Britain first needs to officially invoke Article 50 to request withdrawal, after which the EU and the authorities in London begin negotiations on it.
