British Prime Minister Theresa May confirmed today that she will step down from the position of leader of the Conservative Party before the elections in Britain scheduled for 2022, reports Tanjug.
"I think it is right that we are led by another president of the party in the general elections," May said after arriving in Brussels for the European Union summit, reports AP.
Members of the Conservative Party voted of confidence in Theresa May on Wednesday night, a vote fueled by growing discontent within the party over May's handling of Brexit negotiations.
May, however, did not say what she would do if, as many expect, an early national election caused by divisions over Brexit takes place, according to the US agency.
