The Paris Prosecutor's Office announced today that the fourth victim of the attack on the Christmas market in Strasbourg, which took place on Tuesday and in which 13 people were wounded, also succumbed to injuries.
Attacker Cherif Shekat (29), a French citizen, was killed last night in a confrontation with the police after he opened fire on officers who tried to arrest him after recognizing him on the street, Reuters reported.
This ended the two-day chase in which more than 700 members of the security forces participated.
The Islamic State announced on Thursday that the man who killed three people in Strasbourg was their soldier, the IS Amak news agency reported on its website, although it did not provide evidence for such a claim.
