Seven people were arrested in August in France for links to terrorist networks, at least three of whom "had elaborate plans for attacks," said French Interior Minister Bernard Cazeneuve.
"The number of people arrested in the first six months due to connection with terrorist organizations is equal to the total number of people arrested during the whole of last year," Kaznev said today at a joint press conference with his German colleague Thomas de Mezieres.
According to data published by the French Ministry of the Interior at the beginning of August, since the beginning of this year, 165 people have been arrested as part of the anti-terrorist campaign, 91 of whom have been charged, and 63 are still in custody.
A 16-year-old boy, who said he was ready to carry out a terrorist attack in France, was arrested earlier this month in Paris, and in Clermont-Ferrand, police arrested an 18-year-old boy, accused of spreading "violent religious propaganda on the Internet."
France was the target of three terrorist attacks for which the Islamic State claimed responsibility, and the bloodiest massacres took place in November last year in Paris, when 130 people were killed, and in Nice, on the day of the Bastille Day celebration on July 14 this year, when 86 people died.
The government says the threat of terrorism "remains at its highest," and many traditional celebrations and festivals have been canceled for security reasons.
