British Prime Minister Theresa May said today in Berlin that Britain will not seek to leave the European Union before the end of 2016, because it needs to plan, as she stated, a prudent and well-organized exit.
"We will not activate Article 50 until our goals are clear, which is why I have already said that it will not happen before the end of this year," May said at a joint press conference with German Chancellor Angela Merkel, reports AFP.
By activating Article 50, the EU's formal mechanism for exiting the bloc is launched, the French agency explains.
The British Prime Minister is visiting Berlin today, which is her first trip to a foreign country since she took office last Sunday.
