Russian opposition member Alexei Navalny said today that unknown assailants threw two cakes in his face in Moscow, claiming that the attack was connected to the official Kremlin.
Navalny, a tireless critic of Russian President Vladimir Putin, said that the attack in front of his office was carried out by "some pranksters who threw two cakes in my face and then ran away," AFP reported.
He posted a picture of his face smeared with whipped cream on Twitter and Instagram.
Navalny, who published data on the great wealth of Russian officials and is leading the opposition's efforts to achieve the best possible result in the parliamentary elections in September of this year, linked the attack to the Kremlin.
"Putin and (Russian Prime Minister) Dmitry Medvedev see throwing cakes as the only way to respond to the challenges of the opposition," Navalny wrote on Facebook.
In early February, he tried to sue Putin for corruption, accusing him of ordering the payment of large loans to companies owned by his son-in-law, but the court dismissed the suit a day later, citing Putin's presidential immunity.
