One person was killed and another injured when an avalanche swept six skiers off-piste in the Swiss Alps, police said.
The avalanche, which was estimated to be about 300 meters wide and 600 meters long, happened near Mitelalalin, according to a statement from the police of the southern Swiss canton of Valais.
The skiers were moving from Mitelalalin to Sass-Almagel at the time of the avalanche, and four of them managed to get out of the snow unharmed, AFP reported.
A man (36) from Vale was transferred to a hospital in Bern, where he died of his injuries, and another (49) from the same area was transferred to a hospital in Vispo with injuries.
This is the latest in a series of deadly avalanches in the Alps.
Last month, two Italian cross-country skiers died in an avalanche in Vale.
On the French side of the border, 15 people died in avalanches, including six members of the French Foreign Legion during a training exercise last month.
Five Czech skiers died in an avalanche in the Austrian Alps at the beginning of this month.
