The situation in the world is dramatic, there is no longer a single big Europe, Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev said today in Munich at the Security Conference, assessing that relations between Russia and NATO have slipped into a new Cold War.
"There are even fiercer conflicts in the countries of the Middle East and North Africa, there has been a collapse due to the migrant crisis, relations between the EU and Russia have deteriorated, there is a civil war in Ukraine," said Medvedev.
As the Russian Prime Minister said, NATO's political course remains hostile and closed to Russia.
In his opinion, the absence of dialogue between Western countries and Russia, including global issues, is abnormal, and the problem in communication is recognized by everyone - both Russia and the West, reports Tas s.
Medvedev also said that if the situation in Syria and other hotspots is not normalized, there is a danger that terrorism will become a "new type of war" in which the whole world will be dragged.
Only regular cooperation between Russia and the US can lead to the normalization of the situation in Syria, Medvedev said.
"By that, I mean regular, everyday cooperation," added the Russian Prime Minister.
He also said that there is no need to scare anyone with a ground operation in Syria, Reuters reports, stating that it is not clear what Medvedev meant.
Medvedev again rejected accusations that the Russian air force is bombing civilians in Syria.
"There is no evidence that we are bombing civilians even though everyone accuses us of doing so. Russia is not trying to achieve some secret goals in Syria. We are simply trying to protect our national interests," he said, adding that Moscow wants to prevent extremists from reaching Russia.
