Actress Vanessa Redgrave and fashion designer Vivienne Westwood, known for their engagements in various fields, joined today the protest of British doctors specializing in internal medicine, who gathered in London dissatisfied with changes in working conditions.
Vanessa Redgrave (79) addressed the protesters to whom she acknowledged, saying that the employees of the British public health service saved her life.
"Internists represent the future of medicine and you will win the battle you are fighting now," said Vivienne Westwood, 74, who also addressed the protesters.
British doctors are unhappy about the government's decision to introduce a new type of contract to improve night and weekend hospital services.
The doctors estimated that the new contract will only worsen their working conditions and lead to a reduction in wages.
Several thousand specialist doctors went on strike in January, for the first time in the last 40 years, which caused the cancellation of many surgical interventions and examinations.
A new strike was announced on Wednesday, February 9.
