A mail-carrying plane crashed this morning in northern Sweden, and rescuers are searching for the bodies of two crew members who are believed to have died, local authorities said.
The Kanader CRJ-200 aircraft is registered in Sweden and was rented by Norwegian Post to transport mail to the north of the country.
Two crew members were from France and Spain, reports AP.
Director of Norwegian Post, Dag Mejdel, said that the wreckage was spotted near Lake Akajaure in a sparsely populated area in northern Sweden near the Norwegian border.
Reuters previously reported that the crew sent a distress call, and that the wreckage of the plane was later spotted by a Norwegian F-16 military aircraft.
The Canadian took off from Oslo Airport to the main airport in Troms, Reuters reported, saying that police were trying to get to the crash site in very cold weather in an area where there are no roads.
