Paris: The attacker who tried to enter the police station was killed

A man who was killed by French police this morning while trying to enter a police station in the 18th arrondissement in Paris with a knife in his hand was carrying a paper with the flag of the Islamic State as well as a fake explosive vest.

Sources close to the investigation told AFP that he was convicted of robbery in 2013.

The investigators determined from his fingerprints that he was a convicted felon, a homeless man, Salah Ali, born in Morocco in 1995.

As reported by Reuters, he had with him a piece of paper with an IS flag and an inscription in Arabic claiming responsibility for the attack.

The Ministry of the Interior said that it is believed that he was alone and that no one else was involved in the attempted attack.

Previously, Reuters, referring to the statement of an unnamed source in the French police, reported that he was wearing a fake vest.

"The man had a vest, but it was fake. Bomb disposal units found that (the vest) was fake," the unnamed source said.

A spokesman for the French Interior Ministry said earlier that the slain attacker may have been wearing an explosive vest when he entered the police station shouting "Allahu akbar".

AFP previously reported the statement of eyewitnesses that "two to three shots" were heard in Gut Dor Street, and that the street was then blocked by the police.
