An unmanned remote-controlled underwater military vehicle, with explosives on it, was discovered during a routine control on the seabed in the Baltic, near the North Stream gas pipeline, Swedish media announced today.
As announced by the spokesman of the Swedish army, Jesper Stolpe, the underwater runway, which was discovered yesterday in international waters, north of the island of Gotland, cannot be deactivated before November 9, but it is estimated that it does not pose a danger to the ships or to the gas pipeline, especially before that the cable through which it is controlled was cut off, reports Raša Tudej.
This type of underwater drone is commonly used to destroy explosive devices that cannot be retrieved from the seabed. During that operation, the drone itself is destroyed.
Since the drone has no markings of any country, it is not known who it could belong to, as the armies of many countries use such equipment.
The Swedish army, by the way, excludes the possibility that it is a planned sabotage on the Nord Stream gas pipeline that connects Russia and Germany. That gas pipeline was built by the Russian energy giant Gazprom in cooperation with German, French and Dutch companies.
