The member of the French National Front in the European Parliament, Marine Le Pen, violated EP rules because she allowed her colleagues to vote for her on at least four occasions, an internal investigation in the EP found.
Le Pen, who is the leader of the French far-right, reacted violently to this claim and called the accusations absurd and baseless.
She said that the MPs who used her voting card did so without her approval, because she left it on the table during short absences from the chamber.
The head of the parliamentary group of the European People's Parties (EPP), Manfred Weber, said that it is obvious that Le Pen knows nothing about democratic parliamentarism and reminded that voting through an intermediary is a criminal offense in many European countries.
The disciplinary committee of the EP will decide on possible sanctions against Le Pen.
