Great Britain will spend an additional 100 million pounds on humanitarian aid related to the crisis with Syrian refugees, Prime Minister David Cameron announced today during his visit to Spain.
The total British humanitarian aid for this purpose would thus exceed one billion pounds, which is the country's largest response to a humanitarian crisis so far, Cameron points out, as reported by Reuters.
"60 million pounds of this additional aid is intended for Syrians still in Syria, while the rest will go to neighboring Turkey, Jordan and Lebanon, where Syrian refugees currently make up a quarter of the population," the British prime minister said.
Earlier today, Cameron also announced that Britain would accept "thousands more" of refugees from Syria.
