American pastor Andrew Branson, who was acquitted by a Turkish court, left Turkey tonight and is on his way to the USA, the AP agency reported.
Branson and his wife Norin flew from the Turkish airport in Izmir to Germany and from there to the USA, Turkish media reported.
Earlier today, a Turkish court ruled on the release of an American pastor whose detention caused a diplomatic crisis between Ankara and Washington.
Branson lived in Turkey for 23 years. He was arrested in December 2016, and on July 22 of this year he was transferred to house arrest.
The pastor was accused of acting on behalf of the network of preacher Fethullah Gulen, whom Ankara holds responsible for the coup attempt in July 2016, but also on behalf of the Kurdistan Workers' Party.
Both organizations are considered terrorist by Turkey.
