Great Britain must remain in the EU in order to continue to influence the world stage, US President Barack Obama said.
British membership of the EU "gives us much greater confidence in the strength of the transatlantic union," Obama said, according to the BBC.
The US president also pointed out that the EU makes "the world safer and more prosperous".
Obama also told the BBC that British Prime Minister David Cameron is an exceptional partner and congratulated his government for meeting the NATO goal of allocating two percent of the gross domestic product for defense purposes.
