Great Britain will receive hundreds of vulnerable Syrian refugees, women and children, government sources announced today.
London has accepted to receive 500 Syrian refugees - women and children - within the framework of a three-year program developed with the United Nations Refugee Agency.
The Labor Party has called on David Cameron's government to increase aid to Syrians fleeing the war-torn country.
Speaking at a conference in Slovakia, Cameron announced that British aid would be modestly increased.
"In the next two years, the proposal is to accept a few hundred more refugees than was timely foreseen," said a source close to the government.
Currently, 187 people are accommodated in Great Britain, out of the 500 that are planned to be received in the next three years, but the number will be increased to 800.
