The former head of German diplomacy, Joška Fischer, said that British Prime Minister David Cameron should not be too convinced of German support for his proposal on the reform of the European Union. Last Sunday, Cameron spoke with several European leaders seeking support for EU reform so that Great Britain would remain in the Union, and after speaking with him, German Chancellor Angela Merkel said she was ready to discuss reforms. Fischer, who, according to the BBC, is the creator of European foreign policy, said that Great Britain is not a priority for Angela Merkel. The former German foreign minister told Cameron "not to be fooled". "Angela Merkel will not do anything that would threaten the basic principles of the common market," Fischer told the BBC, adding that the chancellor's priority is a compromise in the eurozone with Greece. He assessed that it is an illusion to think that Great Britain will receive special treatment because it contributes significantly to the EU budget. "What will the UK be without the EU? You go to Washington, you ask them. The answer is very clear, very negative," Fisher said.
