Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki said today in Bucharest that his country wants the US to play a key role in Eastern Europe in order to strengthen the continent as a whole.
"The US stands by us. We have the desire and commitment to make the European project stronger," Moravjecki said today at the summit of the Three Seas initiative in Bucharest, whose goal is to strengthen connectivity in Eastern Europe and improve ties between the region and the US and the European Union.
The two-day summit of the Three Seas Initiative, which started yesterday, is being held today in Romania, the current chairman of the initiative.
The President of the European Commission, Jean-Claude Juncker, US Secretary of Energy Rick Perry, Croatian President Kolinda Grabar-Kitarović and other heads of state are also attending the summit.
About 40 projects are being considered at it, the aim of which is to encourage regional connectivity in the transport, energy and digital sphere.
The Three Seas Initiative was launched in 2015 and includes 12 EU member states between the Adriatic Sea, the Baltic Sea and the Black Sea. Among them is Austria, the only one that was not in the camp of communist countries.
The first summit was held in Dubrovnik in 2016, and the second summit in 2017 in Warsaw, Poland, was attended by US President Donald Trump.
