British Prime Minister David Cameron has announced that he will send military personnel to Ukraine next month to help train the Ukrainian army, and warned that Moscow will destabilize other countries if no one stands up to it.
Cameron spoke out after pro-Russian rebels brought journalists to witness the withdrawal of heavy weapons from the front in eastern Ukraine. Ukraine said the rebels used the ceasefire to advance.
"Over the next month we will send British personnel to advise and train the Ukrainians, from tactical intelligence to logistical support and medical care," Cameron told MPs in the British Parliament.
He said that they were developing an infantry training program together with Ukraine, so that the Ukrainian forces would be more durable. He also stated that British personnel will be far from the front and will not participate in combat operations.
Cameron did not rule out the possibility of arming Ukraine at some point, but pointed out that Britain's approach is currently different.
"If we don't stand up to Russia, it will harm all of us in the long run because we will have new destabilizations. Next will be Moldova or one of the Baltic states."
