Ireland: About 20.000 people protested because water is not free

Around 20.000 people took to the streets today in several cities in Ireland due to the recent introduction of water charges which used to be free.

Several thousand people gathered in Dublin, dissatisfied with the termination of free water as part of the end of financial assistance from the International Monetary Fund and the European Union in 2010 due to the financial crisis in Ireland that broke out in 2008.

The first water bills arrived in April 2014 and immediately caused discontent among citizens, but the situation partially calmed down in November when the Irish government promised to reduce the price of water.

Demonstrators today demanded the dismissal of the government, because, as they say, it has not kept its promise.

Until now, water was free because it was financed by taxes.
