Paris: A policewoman was hit by a car in front of Hollande's residence

In front of French President Francois Hollande's residence in Paris, a car driver hit a policewoman, British media write.

On Wednesday evening, a car was driving the wrong way on a one-way street towards the Elysee Palace, and the driver then hit a policewoman, who was slightly injured and transported to the hospital.

As the Independent writes, the French police said that it is believed that the policewoman was hit on purpose, but that the incident is allegedly not related to terrorism.

The two people who were in the car first fled the scene, only to be arrested later. The incident occurred at a time when France is on high alert following last week's attacks by Islamist extremists in the capital, in which 17 people were killed. Hollande said on Wednesday that "Charlie Abdo is alive and will continue to live" after the satirical weekly published its first issue since the Islamist attack on its Paris office on January 7 that killed 12 people. "You can kill people, but you can never kill their ideas," Hollande said.
