The Austrian police have been carrying out a major operation against international terrorism in Graz, Linz and Vienna since the early hours of the morning, and the main suspect is from Bosnia and Herzegovina.
About 500 members of the police, including the special unit Cobra, according to the press, raided apartments, mosques and other Islamic institutions.
It is about financing, but also recruiting jihadists for the Islamic State.
The police action was preceded by two years of wiretapping, which the media claim is the largest in post-war history.
The State Prosecutor's Office issued around 20 arrest warrants on charges of membership in a terrorist organization and ordered an additional 40 apartment searches.
The main suspect is a person from Bosnia, a father of five children, who was considered a spokesman for the European branch of the Islamic State and who recruited for jihad.
As a precautionary measure, as there is a threat of Islamist retaliation, police across Austria have been put on alert.
