It's the citizens: 100.000 Irish protest against water bills

At least 100.000 people protested against new water bills introduced in Ireland, organizers said.

Demonstrations have been organized across Ireland, and are the largest since 2008, when water bills began to increase due to the deepening financial crisis in the country, AP reported.

The protest was organized by the "Right to Water" movement, the agency said.

The increase in water fees is one of the measures proposed by EU and IMF experts so that Ireland can reduce its budget deficit, reports AP.

The water bill, which was introduced from October 1, should be 278 euros per year for the average household, and tens of thousands of people refuse to pay that much.
