Russia, in response to the creation of a European "missile shield", will include the so-called "anti-missile shield" in its arsenal of defense and potential retaliation. "revenge trains" that will carry nuclear missiles.
The carrying capacity of a standard Soviet refrigerated wagon is approximately 47 tons, so analysts assume that the 38-ton Bulava missile system and the 49-ton Yars would be ideal for this type of defense. Professor Yuri Grigorjev, doctor of technical sciences, points out that the system of "retaliation trains" is better protected against an enemy's nuclear attack than the earlier mobile launch pads, which could "disappear" in the first attack. However, Grigorjev points to the potential danger in peacetime if terrorists blow up such a train with missiles equipped with nuclear warheads. Even a simple accident can lead to unforeseeable tragic consequences, he notes. The television channel "Zvezda", which belongs to the media group under the leadership of the Ministry of Defense of Russia, confirms that one of the scientific research institutes, which works for the interests of the Strategic Missile Units, has successfully completed another stage of research into a new type of defense. This system should enter Russia's armament already by 2020, since by 2018 or 2020, the European anti-missile defense will be equipped with new "SM-3" missiles and will thus be able to intercept Russian intercontinental missiles.
