Switzerland has increased cheese exports to Russia five times, after Moscow banned the import of food from the EU, in response to Western sanctions, the newspaper "Schweitz am Sonntag" reported.
According to the newspaper, in September 2013, Swiss producers delivered 28 tons of cheese to Russia, and in September 2014, even 160 tons.
The company "Interchiz" said that the greatest demand is for cheaper cheeses.
Producers, however, fear that after the lifting of the Russian embargo, the market will be taken over by companies from the EU, and that is why Swiss producers want to export more expensive cheeses for gourmets.
This summer, Moscow imposed a one-year ban on food from countries that imposed sanctions on Russia.
