The Coast Guard of Northern Ireland launched an operation to rescue crew members of about 80 small sailboats that capsized in a storm while participating in a regatta.
A Coast Guard spokeswoman said 97 people fell into the waters of Strangford Lock during the small sailing regatta, with at least XNUMX people taken to hospital for hypothermia, Reuters reported.
Rescue boats and a helicopter from the neighboring Republic of Ireland are also participating in the rescue operation.
The storm that brought strong winds and high waves to cause today's incident is the latest blow from Hurricane Bertha, which hit the UK and Ireland hard at the weekend.
