The French High Council of the Broadcasting Agency has proposed a special tax on the operation of Internet services for the exchange of video content such as YouTube and Dailymotion.
The Agency's report states that the goal is to force these media giants to contribute to the financing of French culture, reports SEEbiz.
Those portals, it is added, fall into the same category as the video-on-demand service, so they should fall under the Law on the Protection of French Culture, which requires distributors to subsidize production with a portion of their income.
