The European Environment Agency conducted a survey on the quality of bathing water in the countries of the European Union.

The waters in Cyprus and Luxembourg are unparalleled, followed by Malta, Croatia and Greece.

Ninety-four percent of bathing facilities in the European Union meet the minimum water quality standards, according to the results of this year's research.

Water quality is outstanding in 78% of locations, while almost 2% more locations meet minimum requirements compared to last year's report.

The highest water quality was recorded in Cyprus and Luxembourg, while eight other countries recorded quality above the average: Malta (97%), Croatia (95%), Greece (93%), Germany (88%), Portugal (87%), Italy (85%), Finland (83%) and Spain (83%).

The waters in Croatia are of excellent quality, and swimming is not prohibited anywhere, nor is the water quality bad anywhere. 919 bathing spots are covered, of which 912 are at the sea, and the rest are rivers and lakes.

Great Britain also meets the conditions, but at 36 locations the water quality was assessed as very poor. It is similar in Ireland, where bathing is not recommended in four locations. There are as many as 74 such locations in France.
