French actress Brigitte Bardot threatened today that she too will seek Russian citizenship, as did her colleague Gerard Depardieu, if the authorities decide to euthanize two sick elephants, according to French media.
"If those in power are so cowardly and reckless as to kill the two elephants Baby and Nepal ... I have decided to ask for Russian citizenship and to flee this country which is nothing more than a graveyard for animals," wrote Brigitte Bardot, an activist for animal protection, in a statement delivered to Agence France-Presse.
The announcement came after Russian President Vladimir Putin yesterday granted Russian citizenship to Depardieu, who recently threatened to give up his French passport due to drastic tax increases on the richest French.
Baby and Nepal are sick elephants at the zoo in Lyon who are threatened with being put to sleep, against which animal protection activists have risen up.
