Morrissey: Britain is polluted with patriotism

Stephen Patrick Morrissey, the ex-Smiths singer, did not celebrate Britain's three gold medals, but instead focused on criticizing the 'incredible nationalism' at the Olympics.

"I can't watch the Olympics because of the extreme nationalism that denigrates the whole event," he wrote on his page.

"Has England ever been so polluted with patriotism? Flashy members of the royal family have hijacked the Olympic Games and are using them for their imperial interests, and no voice of opposition is allowed anywhere in the media."

Morrissey also stated that London was suddenly promoted as a super brand that has a lot of rich content and export qualities, while the rest of England, outside the photoshopped image of the capital, is trembling under the pressure of recession, difficult circumstances and is on the verge of economic disaster.

"Meanwhile, the British media presents a 24-hour polished image of the royal family smiling nonchalantly at every luxury splurge, as if such a sight could once again unite the whole country."

The singer, outraged, further clarified that in 2012, English leaders consider the audience incapable of forming their own thoughts and attitudes.

"Driving through Greece recently, I noticed repeated graffiti written in big blue letters: Wake up, wake up. It might as well have been written for the British," he concluded bitterly.
